In 1997, seventeen-year-old Devi, was arrested, accused of being a rebel, tortured, and raped in custody. A civil war had just begun. Rebel leaders revealed her as a rape ‘victim’. Tagged with this shameful taboo, Devi battled depression, social ostracism, joined the rebel frontlines, and rose through the ranks, even serving as a member of the parliament when the war ended. Shot as an immersive verité, the film travels with Devi, as she consolidates the voices of survivors.

1997년 네팔, 내전이 막 시작될 무렵. 열일곱 살 소녀 데비는 반군 혐의로 체포되어 고문과 성폭행을 당한다. 반군 지도자들이 그녀를 성폭행 피해자로 공개하면서, 데비는 수치스러운 낙인과 함께 살아가야 했다. 우울증과 배제에 맞서 싸운 데비는 역설적으로 반군에 합류하여 전쟁이 끝난 후엔 의회 의원으로 활동하게 된다. 〈데비〉는 관찰자적 시점으로, 과거의 고통을 딛고 일어선 데비가 다른 생존자들의 목소리를 모아가는 현재의 여정을 담아낸다.
